日本語には雨、という意味をさす言葉がたくさんある、と聞いたことがある。
嬉し雨、慈雨、小糠雨、五月雨、など。

（個人的には、”篠突く雨”というのが一番好きだけれど、
ここまで書いて、どうやって英訳するんだろうと考え込んでいる）

サルバドールの雨は、バケツをひっくり返したような雨だった。

There are more words describing how "rain" is in Japanese;
Gracious rain, misty rain, early summe rain.

I personally like the sound of "Shino-tsuku-ame",
which my great google tells me "Driving rain".
(mm, need some time to consider if its means the same.
it is more precisely said in French "il pleut des cordes",
which means "it rains like rope")

The rain in Salvador was "it rains cats and dogs"
(I wonder we still can use this expression)
