I have heard that there is a indicator called "Accumulated temperature".
Japanese plum tree, as well as cherry blossom, accumulates temperatures
of each day, like 5C of today, 9C of tomorrow, which eventually get to the
point that flowers open up.
It has been freezing, but some show signs of coming spring before we realize it.
I referred to the Haiku by Ransetsu Hattori (Haiku poet, 1654 - 1707) in Japanese,
but it seems too hard for me to translate into English Haiku... haha.
